Client’s details: Male, 62 years old.

Diagnosis: Advanced Parkinson’s disease

14 years since diagnosis, 15 years since first symptom.

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. The motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease result from the death of dopamine-generating cells in the brain; the cause of this cell death is unknown. The most obvious symptoms are movement-related; these include shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement and difficulty with walking and gait. Later, cognitive and behavioural problems with dementia are common in the advanced stages of the disease.

Symptoms:

Freezing motion and falling over, suffering from constant fatigue and feeling unwell, dyskinesia from medication, joint pain, speech slurring and writing difficulties.

After treatment:

Increases in well-being and energy levels. The client is still able to live independently. Withdrawal of antidepressant medication under doctor’s supervision. Increase in his annual medication is very small. Although the treatment hasn’t yet been developed enough to treat the core of the Parkinson’s disease, it appears that it has applied some brakes to the degenerative process. No appearance of cognitive or behavioural symptoms. The client has taken up painting and is successful in selling their work.

Client’s feedback:

I am uncertain whether it is the remedies or the “talking therapy” which has improved my responses to the various challenges presented by PD… however I have no doubt that my situation is much ameliorated by Sarah’s approach.
